Figure Drawing Fundamentals Winter Session

Figure Drawing Fundamentals Winter Session

8 sessions on Thursday evenings
6:30 - 9:30pm

Winter Session upcoming dates:

  • November 7, 2019 - January 9, 2020 (no class 11/28, 12/26 & 1/2)

This course is for anyone interested in representational approaches to the body, from beginners to more advanced students.  We will introduce, and continue to work with, various fundamental exercises in gesture, contour and tonal modeling.  The class works with a live model using a variety of materials and approaches, and leaves some room for special topics based on the interests of the class.  Materials list and syllabus will be provided upon enrollment.

Enrollment includes admittance to Wednesday's figure drawing session from 6:30-9:30, to practice drawing from the model.  Students can take this class along with Structural Anatomy, which is offered simultaneously, for a more in depth study of the figure.

Our courses are for adults only, unless explicit permission has been given by the instructor, and a parent or guardian is also enrolled in the class.

A basic understanding of drawing is encouraged. Crash into the Human Figure is a one day intensive that provides a great introduction to this course.

Instructor Katia Kosova

Yekaterina (Katia) Kosova has studied anatomy and figure drawing at the Art Students' League, and has continued to research anatomy in her own self-guided artistic practice. She also teaches the 8 week “Anatomy for the Artist” at Shoestring Studio, a one day intensive on Figure Drawing called “Crash into the Human Figure” and leads the long pose figure drawing sessions on Sundays. Because she is a nerd and a workout enthusiast, she has spent a lot of time reading about and studying anatomy and physiology on her own.  In addition to visual art her interests include writing, the study of Greek and Latin, farming and woodworking.  During the summer she teaches classical Greek at the Latin/Greek Institute at the CUNY graduate center.  Please e-mail her if you have any questions at
