Students will work from a live model to create well-structured portraits with convincing colors and features. In this three session workshop participants will incorporate a variety of techniques such as comparative measuring, big form modeling, and glazing methods that are all important aspects of developing a successful portrait. Students will learn how to achieve a better likeness as well as how to paint convincing flesh tones and render textures like cloth and hair. Workshop will include demonstrations, discussions and individual instruction at the easel. Open to all levels.


Instructor Kristy Gordon

Born in Vancouver, Canada, Kristy Gordon received a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design (Toronto) in 2011 and an MFA from The New York Academy of Art in 2013. Her numerous solo exhibitions include Cube Gallery in Ottawa, Canada, and LIC Arts Open in NYC. Her awards include the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant (2010, 2013 and 2015) and Best Portrait Award from the Portrait Society of Canada.

Gordon has ten years of experience teaching and conducting painting workshops, lectures and classes internationally. She has taught at numerous institutions and academies including the New York Academy of Art, The National Academy (New York), The Academy of Realist Art (Ottawa and Boston), and Art Escape Italy (Florence). She has lectured at China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, New Century Artists in New York City and the Art of the Portrait in Washington, DC.
