$195 tuition, students are asked to bring some supplies

Get outside and draw the city around us as it really is—the buildings, the people, the trees, the cars, the animals, the plants, the trash, the wires, the sky, and everything else! Urban sketching is a rewarding and welcoming approach to documenting and sharing our experience of civilization through drawing. Jason has been an organizer and teacher in the urban sketching movement for over a decade, and has lots of tips, tricks, and activities to help you build your skills and expand your sketching practice.

Suitable for all levels. Some prior drawing ability will be helpful, but ambitious beginners are welcome.

Bring your sketchbook and whatever you like to draw with. Any and all pencils, colored pencils, pens, watercolors, etc. are suitable for urban sketching.

Instructor Jason Das

Jason Das works in and teaches many mediums, with an underlying interest in how art can express story and emotion. He has taught at Shoestring since 2016, and has also taught for Urban Sketchers, Sketchbook Skool, Moleskine, Future of Storytelling, 92Y, and Abrons Art Center. He believes that everybody can and should make things themselves (art or otherwise) and it’s even better if we can make and learn things together. He is the former President of Urban Sketchers.
